Description: Tall storage vessel with sides that slope gradually out to very high shoulder marked by a single incised line. Shoulder curves in to wide neck and shaped rim. 2 lug handles attached at shoulder level. Plain base. Incised number "3" on shoulder.
Materials: Glazed red earthenware.
Dimensions: Height: 15". Width: 9". Depth: 8".
Locality and Period: Found in Misoouri. c.1850-70.
Comments: Redware pottery is made from a number of clays found throughout North America. Most 18th and 19th century redware was glazed with clear lead slip to make it impervious to liquids. Several metallic oxides, such as manganese and copper were used to produce dark brown and greenish glaze hues.

Description: Large, wheel-thrown vessel with sides that slope gently in from high waist to short neck. Wide, flaring rim with wire banding. Below waist, sides taper to plain base. At the shoulder on each side, applied lug handles. Number "6" impressed on shoulder below one handle.
Materials: Glazed stoneware.
Dimensions: Height: 16-1/2". Width: 11-1/2". Depth: 11-1/2".
Locality and Period: Probably Southern Missouri. c.1860-70.
Comments: The sloping sides of this crock are characteristic of Southern pottery, by the second half of the 19th century, northern potters were usually producing straight-sided crocks.

Materials: Stoneware.
Dimensions: Height: 10". Width: 6-1/2". Depth: 6-1/2".
Locality and Period: Parkersburg West Virginia. c. 1880.
Comments: Stoneware maker Alexander Polk Donaghho, who moved to Parkersburg from Fredericktown, Pennsylvania, in 1870, built his kiln at what became known as Pottery Junction because of the area's deposits of clay.

Description: Rare 13 gallon salt glazed crock with cobalt blue stenciled label. Albany slip glaze interior.
Materials: Salt glazed stoneware.
Dimensions: Height: 19". Width: 17-1/2". Depth: 16-1/2".
Locality and Period: Labeled Macomb, Ill. c. 1885.
Comments: Joseph Peck, native of Bohemia, emigrated to America in 1852. He lived in Wisconsin and Ohio. In Macomb, Ill. he founded Joseph Pech and Sons in 1882, which later became known as The Buckeye Pottery Company. 5-1/2" hairline crack running from rim down, just left of the #13.
