Shoulder curves in to wide neck and shaped rim. 2 lug handles attached at shoulder level. Plain base. Incised number "3" on shoulder. Materials: Glazed red earthenware. Dimensions: Height: 15". Width: 9". Depth: 8". Locality and Period: Found in Misoouri. c.1850-70. Comments: Redware pottery is made from a number of clays found throughout North America. Most 18th and 19th century redware was glazed with clear lead slip to make it impervious to liquids. Below waist, sides taper to plain base. At the shoulder on each side, applied lug handles. Number "6" impressed on shoulder below one handle. Materials: Glazed stoneware. Dimensions: Height: 16-1/2". Width: 11-1/2". Depth: 11-1/2". Locality and Period: Probably Southern Missouri. c.1860-70. Comments: The sloping sides of this crock are characteristic of Southern pottery, by the second half of the 19th century, northern potters were usually producing straight-sided crocks. Price:SOLD
